What data is collected?

Awin cannot identify who the user is, only that the same user has started his journey with a publisher and completed it with an advertiser, and that the affiliate marketing campaign has thus led to success with regard to this user. By creating a restricted user profile that does not contain the user's name or identity, Awin is further able to capture the so-called "user journey" when it starts on one device and ends on another. The profile is only used to attribute sales and marketing efforts to a publisher, even if the user has changed devices before completing a transaction. Awin stores an individual number sequence for each transaction, which does not reveal the name of the specific user, but contains information about the advertiser's campaign, the publisher, the user action (e.g. click or "view" and in which country it occurred) and the device used.

For what purpose is the data collected?

The purpose of tracking is to associate a publisher's sales and marketing efforts with an accurate user transaction, thus enabling advertisers to compensate publishers on a per-transaction basis. Tracking also allows Awin to provide summary reports to publishers and advertisers. The vast majority of these reports contain only cumulative statistical data.
