  • Google Consent Mode is a function developed by Google to make the use of Google services compliant with data protection regulations.
  • The original version, Google Consent Mode V1, enabled basic customization of data processing based on user consent.

  • Basic Consent Mode: Google Consent Mode V2 introduces the basic consent mode, which blocks Google tags until the user gives their consent. In V1, tags were loaded regardless of consent status and data was only collected after consent was given.
  • Enhanced Consent Mode: Both V1 and V2 offer Enhanced Consent Mode, which allows tags to initially load and then adjust their behavior based on the user's consent preferences.
  • Additional flags: V2 introduces two new flags: "ad_user_data" and "ad_personalization". These flags enable personalized advertising and the transfer of user data to Google Ads.
  • Improved transparency: V2 emphasizes the importance of clear and transparent consent for cookie use to ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Mandatory implementation: From March 6, 2024, Consent Mode V2 is mandatory for all websites that use Google services and replaces V1.

Technical complexity: The implementation and precise configuration of Google Consent Mode V2 can be complex, especially without in-depth technical knowledge.

Consent management: Accurate management and documentation of consents is critical to meet legal requirements and ensure proper data processing.
